Harold F. Tripp, Sr., 88, of Westport died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Norma C. (Vaughan) Tripp, they were married for 62 years.
Born in Westport, son of the late Frederick L. and Freda (Goodell) Tripp, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Tripp was the co-owner / operator of F.L. Tripp & Sons, Inc. of Westport and Davis & Tripp of S. Dartmouth and also served as Harbormaster and Wharfinger for the Town of Westport. He was a member of the Westport United Congregational Church. He enjoyed country music, old western movies, road trips, trips to Foxwoods and woodworking, especially cupolas but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Including his wife, survivors include 5 sons: Harold F. Tripp, Jr. and his wife Judith of Westport, Carl F. Tripp and his wife Nancy of Westport, Frederick L. Tripp and his wife Nannette of ME, Gary A. Tripp and his wife Dawn of Westport and Glenn S. Tripp and his wife MaryBeth of Westport; a daughter: Carol F. Tripp of Fall River; 2 brothers: Allen G. Tripp of Westport and Russell M. Tripp of Westport; 2 sisters: Ethelyn E. Schofield of ME and Alethea M. Reed of CT; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late Joyce E. Tripp, grandfather of the late Amanda L. Tripp, great grandfather of the late Sienna J. Graney and brother of the late Leonard Tripp, George Tripp, Irving Tripp and Frederick Tripp, Jr.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Friday 5 – 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
