Please accept our deepest condolences on the death of a lovely person in the name of Jack. What a great fellow! He always came to visit when he was here. Even at Christmas time he came for a visit and presented us with a lovely plant. He also gave our grandson a funny puppet. He was such a kind and thoughtful man.He will be missed by many in the community.

Jack was a very special part of our family in Prince Edward Island. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Jack" to all the DeRoche family. He was a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our sincere sympathy to all his family. Sincerely, Donald DeRoche & Family Wheatley River Prince Edward Island, Canada

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Please extend my sympathies to all of his family and friends in Boston. As one of Jack's neighbours in PEI, I appreciated so much his love of this place, Wheatley River. I will so miss the conversations we would have when every few days or so I would land in his yard, in search of my dog Buddy, who would inevitably be frolicking with Reggie, or sometimes even snoozing on the front porch - completely at home in the House that Jack built. Jack was full of big ideas, and I loved to hear them. Our neighbourhood will not be the same.

To Jack's family, Jack was a good family friend to us here on Prince Edward Island. He was over to our house recently for a family and friends gathering this past Christmas Eve, December 24, 2013. He was gentle and kind, and was great to pick on our two young boys, Connor and Jay. He was also a great friend to my father; they often dined out together and enjoyed each others company. My father did a lot of the interior woodwork in Jack's Island home. We always liked to see Jack and Reggie(and Tobey before him) arrive on PEI in the summer. He so loved being here on the Island. I'm sure he is in an even more beautiful place now. Please accept our deepest condolences at this time of sorrow. Jack's Canadian friends, Alden, Nadine, Connor, & Jay DeRoche

Sorry for your loss. Jack went to the University of Prince Edward Island at the same time as I did 40 years ago. He was quite taken with a friend of mine, Mary Smith (real name) and we had a great time teasing her about him and his Yankee accent. He played football and was a regular church goer which was an odd combo. Friends of mine were his neighbours on the Stead Rd passed on the sad news this morning. He'll be missed Bon Voyage Jack

Jack was a very special person to our family. Every summer when we went back home to PEI, Jack stopped by each evening for a visit, or to share a meal with us. We loved to hear all the stories he told us. He doted on our young son, Samuel, and almost every time he arrived in PEI Jack would bring him a special toy or action figure from Boston. Last summer it was a huge Batman figure which Samuel treasures. Samuel loved "Uncle Jack" as did we. It won't be the same next summer without seeing Jack and Reggie each evening. Please accept our deepest sympathy. Gord, Lisa & Samuel Ryall

I was saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of my friend, Jack. We spent many hours together when we both attended the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown, PEI. After our first year, Jack, another friend, David McQuade and I roomed together and enjoyed many conversations late into the night. We had several opportunities to spend time with Jack in Boston but as time went on my work took me west and our communication became infrequent. My prayers are certainly with Jack's family - especially his sisters (Patricia, Kathleen & Ellen)... Jack will always hold a special place in my heart. Peace of Christ, David

We were so sad to hear of Jack's passing. We are his neighbours on PEI. Jack said he was the 'pack leader' of the local dogs who would all go to his house to spend time with him - our dog included. Jack was always so helpful to us, he would bring his woodchipper or chainsaw and help us with downed trees, and I would provide him with blackberries and tomatoes and gardening advice. The last time we saw him was when he came by with Christmas presents for my children. One of them is a huge eagle kite which we will fly in the summer and think of Jack. If any of Jack's family is reading this and can think of any way we can help you, please do not hesitate to contact us. - Marti Hopson and Peter Moak and family, PEI
