Obituary

David Helmold, of Groton Long Point, Ct passed away after a brief illness. He was born in Willimantic, CT on July 3, 1942. His parents were Charles Clinton Helmold and Pauline Anderson Wilson. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1960 and attended the University of Connecticut before enlisting in the Navy.

David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1962 – 1965 and in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1965-1968. He served on the USS Requin SS-481 as a torpedo man.

He graduated from Rider University in 1968 and joined the IBM Corporation as a Marketing Representative. He retired from IBM after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Theta Chi, the American Legion, Subvets and the Mystic Lions.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Blackford Helmold, his children Jim & Sarah (Helmold) Johnston, Charles Clinton Helmold II & Atsuko Helmold, and granddaughter Sydney Randall Johnston, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Pamela Anne Helmold of New Port Richey, FL.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday May 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Groton Long Point Yacht Club.

He is on Eternal Patrol: There is a port of no return where ships may ride at anchor for a little space. And then some starless night the cable slips leaving only an eddy at the mooring place. Gulls veer no longer, Sailor rest your oar. No tangled Wreckage will be washed ashore.
